Team Information

Introduction

Thank you for your interest in the San Jose State University Bowling Teams. The following should answer a lot of your questions about our program at San Jose State. If you are interested in more information about College Bowling you should also check out www.collegebowling.com

We compete at a local and national level against teams from California and all over the U.S. In the past we have traveled to several places, among them Denver, St. Louis, Arizona, Las Vegas and Ohio. Our season runs the entire school year beginning in September and finishing in April.

Collegiate Eligibility

To be eligible to bowl collegiately, you must be enrolled as a full time student, taking at least 12 units each semester at SJSU (undergraduates) or 6 units (graduates). Your cumulative college GPA must be 2.0 or higher. This does not include any GPA from a junior college. At the end of the semester you must have completed at least 12 units to be eligible for the next semester. Also, you must not currently be a member or ever have been a member of a Professional bowling organization (i.e.. PBA, PCCB, LPBT)

Team Philosophy

We believe that our past success is due to the Teamness concept that we follow. We try to encourage everyone to work together as a team and have pride in being a member of the San Jose State Bowling Team. An important element is always a positive team atmosphere and attitude.

Tryouts/Requirements

Tryouts are normally at the beginning of the fall semester. Team members are selected based on potential, current ability, coachability, attitude, and interaction with others. Also, members must attend team practices and bowl a minimum of 10 games at the Student Union Bowling Center on their own, outside of team practice.

Scholarships/Fundraising

We do not offer scholarships for bowling. In fact, there are only a handful of schools that do. Every year we try to hold several fundraising events to help cover the cost of travel and entry fees. The annual budget we base fundraising needs on is $30,000. The bulk of that amount  is raised through efforts at the beginning of the year. In addition, all year long we run a Team Booster League. The money earned from the fundraising is used to pay for the teams tournament entry fees, lodging and transportation.
